Best Roulette Strategies

You’ve probably already heard about several roulette strategies used by players all around the globe to improve winning chances. If you’re wondering if any of it is real and if a particular roulette strategy can help you win, the answer is “Yes”. Sure, you shouldn’t expect to find a secret recipe that always guarantees a win. But, as with any game in the world, having a strategy right from the start is a lot better than just going with the flow. In this article, we’re analyzing several systems used by players with the goal to identify the best roulette strategy for various types of players. Therefore, we invite you to check out the below article and get closer to finding the optimal roulette betting strategy for your style.

Columns Roulette Strategy

The columns roulette strategy relies on an outside bet combined with a bet on red or black. Referring strictly to the columns roulette strategy, we can say it’s one without so much planning into it. But before going into further details, let’s check out the three available columns and the numbers included:

  • 1st column – 1,4,7,10,13,16,19,22,25,28,31,34. Out of these 12 numbers, you have six black and six red
  • 2nd column – 2,5,8,11,14,17,20,23,26,29,32,35. This column has eight black numbers and just four red slots
  • 3rd column – 3,6,9,12,15,18,21,24,27,30,33, 36. This time around, there are eight red slots and four black numbers

So, if you want to mix a column bet with a red/black wager, it’s clear you should combine the 2nd column with a bet on black, and the 3rd one with a bet on red. For the 1st column, there’s a 50/50 chance to get either black or red, and that’s why it is better to combine this one with a progressive system. Actually, any player picking this roulette strategy to win can combine all columns with a Martingale or D’Alembert system to improve winning chances.

Red and Black Betting Strategies

The red and black bets on a roulette wheel are extremely popular among beginners since they are easy to follow and come with straightforward rules. However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t develop a roulette strategy that works using solely red and black wagers. In case this is your first time reading about red and black bets, let’s start with a quick overview of how these work.

Placing a red/black wager on a roulette wheel is often considered by rookie players as the best way to proceed. You don’t have to worry about actual numbers, streets, columns, or dozens. You just place you stake on the color of the slot where the ball lands. Therefore, you have 18 black slots and 18 red slots. Winning a red/black wager in roulette comes with a 1 to 1 payout, meaning that you double your stake for a successful bet. Since you’re only placing one bet on the table, this strategy is great for those that don’t have a big budget and want to extend their gameplay. Unlike other strategies that require up to 12 bets on various number combinations, red and black betting strategies are a lot easier on your bankroll.

Last but not least, any black/red system can be combined with Martingale or D’Alembert progressive strategies to further improve winning chances. You’ve probably heard about the Martingale system before as it’s the most popular. It dictates that the player should start with the minimum bet and keep placing wagers until a loss occurs. When this happens, double the value of the previous bet and keep doing so until you win. After a win, go back to the initial bet value, and repeat the process.

The D’Alembert system is very similar to applying the Martingale strategy. However, instead of doubling the wager after a losing bet, you add just one unit to the stake. If your bet is successful, though, you deduct one unit from the stake and so on.

Dozens Betting Strategy

Similar to the columns strategy, the dozens betting system gives you three dozens of 12 numbers to place your wager on. Excluding the zero on the table, the 36 numbers are split into 3 dozens. You will easily identify the dozens on a roulette table by looking for the 1st 12, 2nd 12, and 3rd 12 spots on the layout. Here are the numbers you’re going to bet on for each dozen:

  • 1st – from 1 to 12
  • 2nd – from 13 to 24
  • 3rd – from 25 to 36

The main difference compared to the roulette wheel strategy involving columns is that each dozen contains an equal number of red and black numbers – 6. So, if you want to combine this bet with a red/black wager, you don’t get the odds variance mentioned previously.

There are multiple ways of betting on dozens. You can do it as a straight bet or by mixing other bet types with it. As an example, you can place a Martingale bet system on two dozens and get a 66% payout or just go with a Fibonacci system on a single dozen. The first one means placing 1 bet unit on each dozen and keeping the same bet amount when winning. However, when the two-dozen bet losses, double the previous bet size.

Martingale Two-DozenBet

Let’s say you bet $5 on the 1st and 2nd dozen, roll the ball but it lands on 26. It means your bet lost and you should place an identical bet, maintaining the two dozens but doubling the value to $10. In case this wager wins, you go back to $5 for the next bet and keep on applying this principle.

Fibonacci Single Dozen

Applying the Fibonacci betting system on a dozen bet is straightforward. You should pick a bet unit to start with, let’s say $5. Pick two dozens you fancy more and place your bet on them. If you lose, you add the previous bet value to the total bet and wager again. Since this is only your second bet, it’s going to be $0 + $5 so another $5 bet. However, if this one isn’t a winner, you’re going to add the previous value to your bet – $5 +$5 – so your wager should amount to $10. Keep doing this until you win and when that happens, move back two steps in the Fibonacci string.

Six Number Roulette Strategy

As we’re continuing our pursuit for the optimal roulette betting strategy, we encounter higher-risk systems that come with improved payouts. The idea behind the six number roulette strategy is to pick any such combination on the table. You will get a 5/1 payout for placing such a bet and that’s already appealing enough. Here are the possible combinations of six number bets:

  • 1 to 6
  • 4 to 9
  • 7 to 12
  • 10 to 15
  • 13 to 18
  • 16 to 21
  • 19 to 24
  • 22 to 27
  • 25 to 30
  • 28 to 33
  • 31 to 36

Since there are 36 numbers on a roulette wheel, you’ll get a total of 11 six-number combinations. Just like with the previous strategy, you can either pick one group of six numbers and combine it with a progressive system, or go with two sockets of six numbers to improve your winning chances.

James Bond Roulette Strategy

You’ve surely heard about the famous James Bond roulette strategy that was displayed in the “Casino Royale” blockbuster. The strategy used by 007 is actually a flat betting system, meaning that you will keep the same bet value for each hand. And it goes like this:

  • Place a $15 bet on 19-36
  • A $5 bet on the six number socket from 13 to 18
  • And a $1 bet on 0

Even though it may look pretty and it has a lot of appeal thanks to the association with the world’s greatest secret agent, the James Bond Strategy isn’t fail-proof. In the long run, this system doesn’t cancel the house edge, and it translates in losses no matter how well it may look like you’re doing. To be more precise, you’re at the risk of losing $20 every 37 spins of the roulette.

Tier Betting Strategy

We saved the most complicated betting strategy to last. It could be the most successful roulette strategy. However, it takes a lot of experience and patience to apply. You basically split the roulette wheel into various tiers. Here’s an example of how a tier betting strategy split could look like:

  • The voisins – 22,29,18,28,7,35,12,3,26,32,0,19,15,21,4,25, and 2
  • Zero play – 22,3,35,26,32,0,15
  • Du cylindre (the opposite of the voisins) – 33,16,5,24,23,20,30,8,11,13,36,27
  • Orphelins – 9,31,20,14,1 on one side and 34,7,6 on the opposite side.

Before applying the tier betting strategy it’s ideal that you spend some time figuring out a pattern regarding where the dealer frequently lands the ball to know which tier to pick. Once you do so, you can mix the tier bets to improve your winning chances or combine one tier with a progressive system.
